Gianni Skaragas is a novelist, screenwriter, and playwright. He writes in both English and Greek, and teaches creative writing. A professional writer for more than twenty years, Skaragas is the author of ten books in Greece and Switzerland. His first novel, Epifania, was adapted for television in 2001. In 2009, his play “Prime Numbers” was presented in an Off-Off-Broadway production at the Greek Cultural Center in New York. His short story “The History of Grains” was adapted for theatre in Zurich, Switzerland, and premiered in 2017 (“Courage”). Skaragas has been the creator and writer of six television series in Greece. His English short stories and poems have appeared in publications including The Tower Journal, American Chordata, World Literature Today, Crannóg, Spilled Milk, and elsewhere. He was the recipient of the Copper Nickel Editors' Prize in Prose in 2018 (University of Colorado). His grants, fellowships, and residencies include honors from organizations such as the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Writers OMI (Ledig House, New York), the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, and Sulzberg Foundation, among others. He was the keynote speaker at the Soul for Europe Berlin Conference in 2015. The stage adaptation of his novel The Lady of Ro was presented in Los Angeles at the Center for the Art of Performance UCLA in 2020. He is a 2023 Seoul International Drama Award winner for his crime series "Act Like You're Asleep" (Best TV Series).
Μυθιστοριογράφος, θεατρικός συγγραφέας και σεναριογράφος, ο Γιάννης Σκαραγκάς εμφανίστηκε στα γράμματα πριν από δύο δεκαετίες με το μυθιστόρημα Επιφάνεια και τη σεναριακή του διασκευή για το Mega, υπογράφοντας μέχρι σήμερα δώδεκα βιβλία στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Γράφει στα ελληνικά και τα αγγλικά και βραβεύτηκε το 2018 από το πανεπιστήμιο του Κολοράντο για το «How to Draw Human Figures» από την επιτροπή συντακτών του λογοτεχνικού περιοδικού Copper Nickel (Editors' Prize in Prose). Έχει επίσης γράψει έργα για το θέατρο στην Ελλάδα, στις ΗΠΑ και την Ελβετία, μεταξύ των οποίων το «Prime Numbers» στη Νέα Υόρκη το 2009, και το Courage στη Ζυρίχη το 2017. Έχει βραβευτεί ως συγγραφέας από μεγάλα ιδρύματα στην Ευρώπη και την Αμερική (Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Art OMI New York, IWP University of Iowa, κ.α). Το έργο του «Η Κυρά της Ρω» εντάχθηκε στο πρόγραμμα του Centre for the Art of Performance του UCLA στο Λος Άντζελες τη θεατρική περίοδο 2019/2020 με περιοδεία στις ΗΠΑ και την Αυστραλία. Έχει εργαστεί στον χώρο της τηλεόρασης, υπογράφοντας το σενάριο έξι τηλεοπτικών σειρών, με πιο πρόσφατη την ψυχολογική αστυνομική σειρά της ΕΡΤ1 «Κάνε ότι κοιμάσαι», η οποία βραβεύθηκε με το βραβείο καλύτερης σειράς από τα Seoul International Drama Awards. Γράφει για γνωστά αμερικανικά λογοτεχνικά περιοδικά όπως: World Literature Today, Copper Nickel, American Chordata, The Tower Journal, Spilled Milk, Midnight Circus, κ.α. Το θεατρικό έργο του «Συμπτώματα από την έλλειψη βάρους» ανέβηκε το καλοκαίρι στο πλαίσιο του Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών και Επιδαύρου για το 2023 στο Μικρό Θέατρο Επιδαύρου. Το τελευταίο του μυθιστόρημα «Μελίνα» αποτελεί μια μυθιστορηματική βιογραφία της Μελίνας Μερκούρη.
Gianni Skaragas est un écrivain, scénariste et dramaturge grec. Il écrit et publie aussi bien en grecque qu'en anglais. Après avoir interrompu ses études de droit et tourné le dos à une carrière de comédien, il signe son premier roman, Surface, en 2000, âgé de vingt-six ans. Il a écrit dix romans. Durant la décennie 2000 il poursuit son parcours à la télévision et écrit cinq séries en Grèce. Il a créé dix pièces de théâtre. La première de sa pièce Prime Numbers a eu lieu à New York, en 2009. En 2017, sa nouvelle The History of Grains est adapté au théâtre en Suisse. How to Draw Human Figures reçoit le prix de la revue littéraire Copper Nickel (Université de Colorado, États-Unis), en 2018. Sa pièce La Dame de Ro est en tournée aux États-Unis et en Australie. Il a publié dans diverses revues américaines comme World Literature Today, The Tower Journal, Midnight Circus, The Story Shack, Crannóg, Spilled Milk, The Charles Carter, Subprimal Poetry Art, etc. Il a été auteur en résidence à la Villa Sträuli, le Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, la Fondation Ledig-Rowohlt, et l' Université de Iowa, IWP.
Giannis Skaragas ist Schriftsteller, Theaterautor und Drehbuchautor. Er schreibt auf Englisch und auf Griechisch. Bisher sind fünf Bücher in Griechenland erschienen. Sein Theaterstück „Primzahlen“ wurde 2009 als Off-Broadway Produktion in New York uraufgeführt. Seit über 15 Jahre schreibt er für das griechische Fernsehen, Kino und Theater. Er ist ein Fulbright Fellow und Mitglied der Vereinigung europäischer Journalisten. Seine Texte sind in US-amerikanischen Zeitschriften wie World Literature Today, The Tower Journal, Subprimal Poetry Art, Spilled Milk, The Charles Carter, Story Shack, Midnight Circus und The Tower Journal erschienen. Giannis Skaragas hat am 9.11. an der Berliner Konferenz 2015 „Europa – seine Werte, seine Bürger” der Initiative „A Soul for Europe” im Allianz Forum teilgenommen. Skaragas hat sowohl als Schriftsteller Aufenthalts und Arbeitsstipendien erhalten (Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Sulzberg Stiftung (Villa Sträuli), University of Iowa und Fondation Ledig-Rowohlt). Gianni Skaragas ist Schriftsteller, Theater- und Drehbuchautor. In seinen Texten beobachtet und beschreibt er die Welt der Krisenregionen, forscht nach neuen Perspektiven.
