Courage is a play that includes the adaptation of Skaragas's short fiction, The History of Grains, but also features work by Tatjana Werik and Ivana Radmilovic. This stunningly inventive production seeks to subvert the idea that we can intellectualize the courageous act. Can we use the ability to endure suffering and loss for political inspiration without political anger?

Presented at Keller 62 in Zürich, Courage is a theatrical experience that knows exactly what it is doing, as it uncovers a dazzling range of human emotions. “Our suffering will never be a story of loss. It won't teach you anything. It will be the slow shake of the head,” says Ruth Schwegler capturing the madness at the heart of a politically run-down world. From the opening moment there is no doubt of her ability to tell heart-rending stories in the most unusual of ways, like an arrow shot into the heart. Music is central to the production but in ways that don't sit on top of the text. Andrea Milova and David Cielbala offer some enchanting moments of harmonising skills, celebrating the realtionship between music and prose. There are also neat, hilarious vignettes from Faten, the cleaning lady, an Iraqi immigrant who came to Switzerland to find a better life.

Courage is a profound and fierce production that pins down the universal human condition, bringing things together in a true central explanation: we all have to make the impossible choice between who we are and who circumstances demand us to be.
